76. Interest on Loan and Special Expenditure and other items for the current year were included in the Income Account and the balance carried to Profit and Loss Account, this balance standing at $467,685.10 being transferred to Surplus Appropria- tion Account. The accumulated deficit at the end of the year being $6,978,224.05

MEDICAL.

77. Dr. John Edward Dovey, M.B. Ch. B., Edin., held the appointment of Railway Medical Officer throughout the year.

There were 24 accidents during the year involving bodily injury of which two were fatal.

The eye-sight and physical examinations were carried out and the results recorded.

The usual First Aid Lectures were conducted by the Rail- way Medical Officer. 21 out of 27 competitors passed the Annual Re-examination. This is considered a satisfactory standard.

STAFF.

78. Mr. Joseph Morris, Chief Accountant, proceeded on long leave on March 3rd and returned to duty on November 23rd, Mr. I. B. Trevor acted in his stead during his absence.
